The Quiet Week Between Christmas and the New Year: A Gentle Creative Pause

The week between Christmas and the New Year always feels a little different.

It’s quieter, but not empty.
Slower, but still full in its own way.

The rush of the holidays has passed, the decorations begin to come down, and for many of us, this in-between space becomes a gentle pause — a moment to breathe before stepping forward again.

Here at Steel Roots Market, this week is one I treasure.

A Slower Rhythm After Christmas

In my studio, this quiet week looks like tidying creative corners, a bit of relaxing, and  continued celebrating Christmas. There are still bits of ribbon lingering, papers waiting to be sorted, and ideas scattered across my worktable.

It’s not about productivity or rushing into the next season.
It’s about creating space.

And I imagine many of you are doing something similar.

Some may be hosting one more gathering or traveling to see family.
Some might be easing back into routines.
Others may simply be resting — cozy on the couch, watching movies, letting the body and mind finally exhale.

Wherever you find yourself, you’re not alone in this season.

Why This Week Matters for Creative Living

This in-between week is not an ending and not quite a beginning. It’s a threshold — a soft place to reflect, reset, and listen.

For creatives, makers, and homestead-hearted souls, these quieter moments are often when ideas begin to form naturally. Without pressure. Without expectation.

It’s when creativity becomes less about output and more about intention.

At Steel Roots Market, this is where so many projects begin — with slow preparation, thoughtful planning, and space to dream. January will unfold in that same spirit: meaningful creativity, guided projects, and open-ended ideas that meet you exactly where you are.

Whether you have five minutes or a full afternoon to create, there is room for you here.

An Invitation to Create Gently

If you’re feeling the nudge to refresh your creative space or set aside something special for the new year, this quiet week is a beautiful time to do so.

Right now, a few gentle offerings are available in the shop:

Gift cards, which include bonus shop credit  — a little creativity waiting for you in the new year

Free shipping on orders of $75 or more

A surprise mystery decoupage paper bundle, along with a few extra creative goodies, tucked into qualifying orders as a thank-you from my studio to yours

There’s no rush — just an open invitation to browse, gather inspiration, and prepare for a slower, more meaningful kind of creating.

Carrying the Quiet Forward

As the year draws to a close, I hope you’re able to find a pocket of rest, reflection, and creative renewal. The quiet moments matter just as much as the busy ones — sometimes even more.

Thank you for being part of this creative space, especially in these softer seasons. I look forward to creating alongside you as the new year gently unfolds.

With warmth and gratitude,
Carrie

Maker's Notes

📦 Tools: Pentart Heavy Body Gel + IOD Moulds

✨ Tiny win: Finished editing my Halloween project video!

Quick Tip

Quick Tip — Soft Vintage Edges

When layering printed papers or transfers, brush a thin coat of Pentart Heavy Body Gel over torn edges and let dry before sealing. It blends seams beautifully and leaves a smooth, aged finish.

In The Studio

Bits of paper, a stack of new transfers, and a cup of tea — the studio has been buzzing quietly while I prepare for new kits and videos. Small messes, big inspiration.
